Corrente da Virada – A Campaign Chain for Brazil's Runoff

JavaScriptSupabaseCloudflare TurnstileVercelClaudePython

What It Is

Corrente da Virada ("the turnaround chain") ran for the 13 days before the October 25, 2026 runoff. The idea was person-to-person reach: you joined the chain, got a numbered link and ready-made art for Instagram and WhatsApp, and asked three people to join after you. Around the chain sat everything a volunteer needed to talk to an undecided voter: short answers with sources, a state-by-state comparison, a fact-check timeline, debunked AI fakes, two small games and a kit of shareable material. After the election the site was frozen as a static archive with a thank-you and the final numbers on top.

Features

The chain: join, get a numbered link and share art, pass it to three people

Network of local initiatives and an event agenda

Short answers to common arguments, each with a source and a ready-to-send message

Comparison tool with first-round results by state

Fact-check timeline and a gallery of AI-generated fakes debunked by fact-checking agencies

Two browser games, including the Vira-Voto Simulator

Kit of art, stickers and ready-made texts to share

Technical Highlights

Lean by Design

A static site in plain JavaScript with hash routing and no framework, served from Vercel's São Paulo region so it stayed fast on any phone.

Abuse-Resistant Sign-Up

During the campaign, joining went through a Supabase edge function with Cloudflare Turnstile and per-IP rate limits.

AI Routines Behind the Content

18 scheduled Claude routines produced and published fact-checks and daily content to the database, which the site read with versioned caching.

Frozen Into an Archive

After the runoff, an export script wrote every database read to static JSON and downloaded the images it referenced, so the archive runs with no backend at all.
